My name is Louis Going (Nomen mihi est Louis). I am a retired minister of the Gospel having served two churches for 39 years. I have also been engaged in learning Latin and teaching Latin in various capacities since 2004. I also have knowledge of New Testament Greek and have taught Greek to high school students
I am a graduate of Berkshire Christian College (1972 - 1976 Cum Laude) and of Westminster Theological Seminary (1976 – 1980 With Honors). I taught as adjunct faculty for Berkshire Christian College from 1980-1986 and was instructor in Systematic Theology at the Berkshire Institute for Christian Studies from 1989-2002. I have taught Latin and Greek at Agnus Dei Academy in Whitefield, NH and also online at Aristoi Classical Academy of Katy, Texas. I have been involved in teaching and tutoring both children and adults in Latin and Greek in some capacity since 2004.
Four of my students have taken and passed the National Latin Exam and have continued with their Latin studies through high school and into college.
I keep up with my own studies of Greek and Latin and enjoy learning both languages in greater depth. While I do not have a degree in either language, I have the capacity to teach while I am learning myself. As Seneca proclaimed years ago - Docendo, discimus - by teaching we learn. I am still studying and learning both languages.
I am the founder and proprietor of Agnus Dei Latin Tutoring, which is a service to instruct children and youth in Latin. The service is able to support children, who may need remedial help with Latin courses they are now taking in their schools. All instruction is done online. The sole instructor is myself, Louis Going. I have taught Latin to children and youth in formal settings and online. I have also had experience in helping students prepare successfully for the National Latin Exam. In addition I have taught high school students Greek. I am familiar with and knowledgeable of the following Latin Curricula: Lingua Latina, Cambridge Latin Course, Latin Alive (Books I, 2 and 3), Latin for Children (Primers A, B and C) and Latina Christiana. In my instruction in Greek I have used New Testament Greek for Beginners by J. Greshem Machen and Athenaze – An Introduction to Ancient Greek.
While I learned Greek in college and Seminary, I am teaching myself Latin and have been doing so since 2004. I love both Latin and Greek and find teaching them to be a satisfying endeavor. I have taught both languages to adults but I am especially excited to teach them to children and youth.
I am also thankful to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, my savior and my Lord. He, who is the Son of God, along with the Father and the Holy Spirit have secured salvation for sinners. The eternal Son of God did this by becoming incarnate, living a perfectly obedient life and then offering that blameless life as the sacrificial Agnus Dei and whom God the Father vindicated by raising him from the dead through the Holy Spirit. Thereby he secured forgiveness of sins, acceptance with God and eternal life for all, who in faith, would trust him and yield to him. The grace of God in Christ for the human race is marvelous beyond words and the Apostle Paul was spot on when he declared that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. For this reason the name Agnus Dei is given to this tutoring service.
